Hospitalist Medicine
Hospitalists are those physicians whose primary focus is providing in-patient care services. This service is provided for patients with no stated primary care provider that require admission to the hospital, and for support of those providers in the community who no longer admit patients to the hospital.
RDC is under a contract with Rowan Regional Medical Center to provide hospitalist services to the community. RDC's approach to the provision of these services is slightly different from the norm. Our hospitalist program is structured with three provider types. First we staff the service with "primary" hospitalists who provide only in-patient care, as in the traditional model. At least one primary hospitalist is on duty at all times. Our second provider type is our "dual" provider. Dual hospitalists are RDC physicians who work in both the out-patient and in-patient settings. Each day a dual hospitalist is specifically scheduled to oversee the service's medical operations for the day, and to work in support of the primary hospitalist. Their involvement in the day's activity will depend upon the number of admissions for the day, the total in-patient census and the number of patients the primary hospitalist(s) are caring for. The dual hospitalist is also on call for the primary hospitalist on duty during the evening. The third provider type used in the service is a mid-level provider; physician assistants and nurse practitioners who work in support of the primary and dual hospitalists. Currently one mid-level provider is on duty during the day every day. Our Hospitalists are:
